The problem

Blue View Chalets rents ten chalets around Blue Mountain, Ontario, mostly to families and large groups, and its website was bringing in almost no bookings. Someone booking a chalet for a group is committing a lot of money to a place they have never seen, so they want to know what staying there is like and find the right chalet quickly.

What I did

I rebuilt the brand from the ground up, starting with a new logo, and drew the brand kit from the landscape around the chalets. I designed the website around it, with sections that meet along ridgelines and shorelines so the site feels like the place guests are booking. Each property's chalets sit under a heading that opens and closes, so a guest can compare every chalet on one property or skip straight to the next. Every chalet has its own button that books it directly. I carried the same brand into print, including a welcome book for each chalet, so the book waiting inside matches the site guests booked from.

Where it landed

Bookings through the website more than doubled within three months of launch.

  • Blue View Chalets homepage with the Mountain Property section open below a layered mountain ridgeline, showing the Aurora, Vista and Omega chalets, each with a photograph, its bedrooms, capacity, bathrooms and hot tub in thin line icons, and a Book Now button
With a property open, each chalet shows its size and features in slim line icons, beside a button that books it directly.
  • Blue View Chalets homepage with the Mountain Property section collapsed: the welcome section with its amenity list in thin line icons on blue, a layered mountain ridgeline into the pale Mountain Property band, and a wave into the navy Waterfront Property heading
Each property's heading collapses its chalets, so a guest after the waterfront villa doesn't have to scroll past nine mountain chalets to reach it. Collapsed, the ridgeline and shoreline edges stack like layers of landscape.
  • Two phone screens of the Blue View Chalets homepage on navy, both below a mountain ridgeline. One shows the Mountain Property open, with its introduction and the first chalet photograph. The other shows it closed, with a wave into the navy Waterfront Property heading. A Book Now bar sits at the bottom of both
On a phone the ridgelines and collapsible properties carry over intact, shown here with the Mountain Property open and then closed.
  • Blue View Chalets Waterfront section with the Aqua Villa card in hairline frames and line icons, then a dark mountain ridgeline into a pale closing band with a Book Now link, and the footer
Chalet cards use hairline frames and slim line icons, and the page closes over a darker ridgeline into the footer.
  • Two spreads from the Aurora chalet welcome book: a welcome page with the address, Wi-Fi and check-in times above a navy mountain ridgeline, and a house rules spread with line icons for the rules on smoking, noise, pets and parties
Each of the ten chalets has a printed welcome book that carries the website's type, line icons and ridgelines.
